Construction of the H2-Connector began in Hamburg in August 2026 at the former Moorburg power plant site. The project is being developed by Hamburger Energienetze as part of the planned Hamburg Hydrogen Industry Network (HH-WIN). The facility will connect hydrogen produced by the Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub (HGHH) electrolyser with the HH-WIN distribution network and Gasunie's planned hydrogen network. The project includes a hydrogen injection facility and a pressure regulation station, while a compressor station is planned for a later phase. According to project information, HH-WIN is scheduled to begin operation in autumn 2027 with an initial network length of 40 km, supplying industrial areas around the Port of Hamburg. The network is planned to expand to 60 km by 2031. Construction costs for the H2-Connector are estimated at EUR 22.6 million, of which approximately EUR 16.3 million is supported through IPCEI funding.
