On 21 October 2025, the European Commission opened a public call for feedback to inform the preparation of a future Advanced Materials Act. The initiative is intended to support the development, deployment and uptake of advanced materials across the European Union, recognising their strategic importance for industrial competitiveness, innovation and the green and digital transitions.
Advanced materials are described as key enablers for multiple sectors, including construction, energy, mobility and manufacturing. The Commission highlights their potential to improve performance, durability and sustainability of products, while contributing to decarbonisation, resource efficiency and circular economy objectives.
The feedback process seeks input from stakeholders on existing challenges, including fragmentation of research and innovation efforts, difficulties in scaling up from laboratory to industrial production, and regulatory or market barriers. Contributions will help identify priorities for action and ensure that future measures support innovation while facilitating market uptake.
The Advanced Materials Act is expected to build on existing EU research and innovation programmes and align with broader industrial and sustainability policies. The consultation forms part of the Commission’s efforts to create a more coherent framework that strengthens Europe’s leadership in advanced materials and supports resilient value chains.
