Nuremberg has included zero-emission operations as a requirement in the tender process, creating what the city describes as a blueprint for greener public construction contracts. The approach was used to procure the demolition of a former nursery site in the city's Westpark area. The contractors carried out site operations with an electric fleet including a compact excavator, a compact wheel loader and a hook-lift truck. Before launching the tender, the city's Public Space Service Agency had visited a fully electric deconstruction project at Siemens' headquarters in Erlangen. According to the equipment manufacturer, electric machinery also reduces noise on site and makes it easier to recover separate materials.
