In June 2025, the European Environment Agency, in cooperation with the European Commission, published its 2024 assessment of bathing water quality across Europe.

Based on data from over 22,000 sites in EU Member States, Albania, and Switzerland, the report shows that 96% of bathing waters met minimum EU quality standards, with over 85% rated as ‘excellent’. Coastal waters generally performed better than inland sites, and countries like Cyprus, Greece, and Austria had particularly high shares of top-rated locations.
