The EU Blue Economy Observatory’s tool shows that in 2021, the EU blue economy’s gross value added reached EUR 171.1 billion, with significant contributions from coastal tourism and maritime transport.

According to the latest data from the EU Blue Economy Observatory, an analytical tool that provides insights into the main economic indicators of the EU blue economy, the gross value added of the EU blue economy in 2021 was EUR 171.1 billion. This represents a 35.2% increase from 2020, but an 8.4% decrease compared to 2019. Coastal tourism contributed the most to this value in 2021, accounting for 29.1% of the total, followed by maritime transport with a 25.9% share. For more detailed information on employment, turnover, gross value added (GVA), gross profits, and investments in the EU blue economy, the analytical tool provides data from 2009 to 2021 in the form of dashboards, allowing for detailed analysis with interactive features such as country-specific data selection and visualization.
