Based on the EU Tourism Dashboard, Italy boasts the highest number of World Heritage sites among European destinations, with 59 heritage sites. Germany follows closely with 52 sites, and Spain has 50. In contrast, Luxembourg, Ireland, and Malta have 1, 2, and 3 heritage sites, respectively. Countries with a large number of cultural and/or natural World Heritage sites have the potential to attract a high volume of tourists, which can stimulate economic growth. However, these countries also bear the responsibility of ensuring the ongoing preservation of these sites, which includes implementing suitable tourism management strategies.
