The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has launched a new tool, OECD Regional Well-Being, designed to measure and compare well-being across 447 regions based on eleven key topics - income, jobs, housing, health, access to services, environment, education, safety, civic engagement, community, and life satisfaction. Regions receive scores from 0 to 10 on each topic, along with real values for each indicator. The interactive platform also indicates whether a region has progressed in each area compared to other OECD regions, displaying changes in relative rankings since 2010.
By leveraging insights from the tool, regions can better understand their strengths and areas for improvement, ultimately making them more appealing to both residents and visitors. It can initiate dialogue about community priorities and provide data for guiding societal progress and shaping future growth.
OECD Regional Well-Being can also provide insights for developing and promoting tourism in ways that align with enhancing the quality of life in host regions, offering insights for policymaking, sustainable tourism development planning that benefits local communities, marketing and branding, destination attractiveness, and more. For example, by focusing on well-being metrics such as the environment, accessibility of services, housing, and life satisfaction, regions can develop tourism strategies that promote sustainability and benefit local communities.
