According to Eurostat, EU residents made 1.08 billion tourism trips with at least one overnight stay in 2022, marking a significant 23% rise from the previous year. Most of these trips (91%) were for personal reasons, while 100 million were for professional purposes. Compared to 2019, the year before the COVID-19 pandemic, personal trips recovered more quickly (-4%) than business travel (-20%). Since 2013, personal trips have increased by 6% (+55 million), whereas professional trips have declined by 15% (-18 million), highlighting ongoing difficulties in the business sector. For more details, refer to the Eurostat article published on 8 November 2023, which includes links to relevant datasets.
