In 2022, EU residents took over 1 billion trips. According to Eurostat, 90.7% of these trips were for personal reasons, while 9.3% were for professional and business purposes. Among the tourism trips, 52.6% were for holidays, leisure, and recreation, and 32.3% were to visit relatives and friends. Additionally, EU residents made 100 million professional trips, accounting for 9.3% of the total tourism trips. Most of these professional trips were domestic (74.9%) and had a maximum duration of 3 nights (72.8%). Compared to the pre-pandemic period, the number of trips for any purpose has recovered to 94.8%.
