In 2022, EU travelers made approximately 166.0 million same-day visits to foreign countries, which was 64.0 million more than in 2021. However, this number still fell short of the pre-Covid level in 2019 by the same margin. According to Eurostat, the majority of these visits were made by German, Polish, and French citizens, with Germany accounting for the largest share at 52.0%. Most same-day foreign visits by EU citizens in 2022 were for personal reasons, while only 6.5% were related to professional or business purposes. Despite the increase, same-day visits have not yet fully recovered to pre-pandemic levels.
