According to experimental statistics from the Spanish National Statistics Institute, in 2023, Spanish tourists predominantly traveled to European countries, accounting for 88.3% of Spanish residents. The top destinations included France (29.6%) and Portugal (25.3%). Simultaneously, most foreign travelers to Spain were also from Europe, constituting 87.7% of foreign tourists. The primary source countries were the United Kingdom (22.8%), France (16.3%), and Germany (15.3%). Interestingly, the most visited months in Spain by foreign visitors align with the most popular month for Spanish residents to travel: the summer months. This trend reflects the reciprocal movement of tourism between Spain and other European nations. For further exploration, the Spanish National Statistics Institute offers freely accessible data on experimental tourism statistics, including measurements based on mobile phone data.
