The Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO) held the European Museum Conference 2023 in Lahti, Finland, from 19-21 November 2023, focusing on how museums can contribute to climate action and a sustainable future. The conference's first panel, moderated by Birgitte Kehler Holst from the Danish Museums Association, began with a presentation by Julie Decker of the Anchorage Museum in Alaska on the role of museums as catalysts for climate action and sustainability. This was followed by Heidi Rosenström from the Heureka Science Centre, who discussed using emotions to communicate complex issues and motivate audiences to move from awareness to action. Ciprian Stefan from the National Network of Romanian Museums and ASTRA Museum then presented on integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into cultural programmes to learn from the past, adapt current solutions, and promote efficient resource use.
