The CIRIEC Conference 2025, hosted in Bordeaux, France, is a landmark event uniting global leaders, researchers, and practitioners dedicated to advancing the social and solidarity economy. Organised by CIRIEC (International Centre of Research and Information on the Public, Social, and Cooperative Economy), in collaboration with Territories of the Social Solidarity Economy Chair (Chaire TerrESS), this prestigious conference is held biennially in rotating locations around the world, ensuring diverse perspectives and fostering international collaboration. Each edition addresses global and local challenges, making it an important platform for exploring sustainable solutions through shared action.
Bordeaux, with its rich cultural heritage and reputation for sustainable urban innovation, offers an ideal setting for these discussions. The event welcomes policymakers, academics, social entrepreneurs, and stakeholders from proximity and social economy ecosystems, creating a dynamic environment for shared learning, collaboration, and action.
Focusing on the transformative potential of the social economy, the conference will explore key topics such as:
- Integrating social economy principles into public policies.
- Cooperative models for sustainable economies.
- Innovative financing for social enterprises, and empowering local communities.
A central feature of the event will be case studies in the proximity ecosystem, showcasing locally driven, collaborative initiatives that address community resilience, sustainable development, and inclusive growth.
Sessions will feature a diverse range of perspectives, emphasising the role of proximity-based models, where local communities, governments, and social enterprises work together to drive sustainable and inclusive growth. By focusing on real world solutions, the conference will bridge the gap between research, policy, and practice, offering participants opportunities for co-creation and collaboration that have a lasting impact on their communities.
As CIRIEC celebrates its milestone 10th edition in partnership with TerrESS, the Bordeaux event represents more than just a conference, it is a call to action. It invites participants to reimagine economic systems, foster social innovation, and build a sustainable, inclusive future. For those engaged in proximity and social economy ecosystems, this is a unique opportunity to gain fresh perspectives, forge new partnerships, and contribute to shaping a more equitable world.
In terms of logistics, the conference has partnered with Revolgo, its official travel agency, to provide practical support for attendees. The registration fees range from €180 for students to €440 for CIRIEC members and €550 for non-members. Reduced rates are available for participants from non-OECD countries. Accommodation options will be announced soon, and participants are encouraged to check the official conference website for updates on travel and stay arrangements.
