The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty and hunger by 2030 are unlikely to be met, with projections indicating that 575 million people will still live in extreme poverty and over 600 million will face hunger.
This year's Policy Dialogue on Social Protection and Development, organised by the OECD and the Universal Social Protection 2030, will take place on 2 and 3 December 2024. The event will focus on the pivotal role of social protection in reversing these trends. By investing in social protection programmes, we can reduce poverty, improve health, education, and nutrition outcomes, and support vulnerable groups affected by extreme weather events.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss evidence-based social programmes aimed at enhancing the nutrition and food security of children, poor households, and smallholder farmers. The dialogue will also explore the use of social registries for better beneficiary identification and how social protection can aid in mitigating and adapting to climate-related risks and shocks.
The event will take place both in person, at the OECD Conference Centre, and online, and participants will benefit from simultaneous interpretation into French and English.
To be part of the conversation on leveraging social protection to achieve the SDGs and create a more resilient future, you can register at this link.
