The European Commission has opened applications for the 16th edition of the Access City Award. This initiative recognises cities within the European Union that implement measures to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

The competition is open to:

  • All EU cities with more than 50,000 residents
  • Urban areas comprising two or more towns with a combined population exceeding 50,000, particularly in EU countries that have fewer than two cities of this size

Applicants must present a structured approach to accessibility and demonstrate strategic efforts across sectors such as public spaces, transport, communication, and housing. Evaluation will be based on both planning and outcomes.

Monetary awards will be distributed as follows:

  • First place: EUR 150,000
  • Second place: EUR 120,000
  • Third place: EUR 80,000

Winners will be announced during the European Day of Persons with Disabilities conference, held on 4–5 December 2025, co-organised by the European Commission and the European Disability Forum.

Deadline for applications: 9 September 2025, 23:59 CEST (GMT+2)
