The Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) has launched the Sustainable Development Funding Programme (Förderprogramm Nachhaltige Entwicklung) to support innovative projects by public and private institutions across Switzerland. The programme aims to facilitate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the strategic priorities outlined in the Sustainable Development Strategy 2030 (SSD 2030).

The 2025–2026 funding cycle centres on the theme “Liveable and Sustainable Places,” with a particular focus on SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

Priority will be given to projects that, among other areas:

  • Promote local economic development or sustainable mobility
  • Enhance climate and landscape protection, biodiversity, and environmental design
  • Foster sustainable lifestyles, individual well-being, social cohesion, inclusion, and reduce regional disparities

Eligible applicants include public authorities (municipalities, public institutions), private organisations, and civil society groups based in Switzerland. The maximum funding amount is CHF 20,000, and federal contributions may not exceed 50% of the total project budget. Applicants must therefore secure co-financing through their own resources or third-party contributions.

Applications are open until 30 September 2025. For more information, please follow the link provided (The original piece available only in German).
