ChemCycling® is BASF’s method of chemical recycling and is part of our Circularity program contributing to the transition to recycled and renewable feedstocks to replace fossil-based feedstocks in chemical production processes. Therein, pyrolysis oil derived from plastic waste or end-of-life tires is fed into our Verbund sites and attributed to the certified products via a mass balance approach. Thus, fossil feedstock is replaced with pyrolysis oil. With our partners Quantafuel, Arcus and Pyrum we develop technical solutions enabling the sourcing and industrial use of this plastic waste-based feedstock.
Since 2020, our customers have successfully launched products from our range of more than 1500 certified mass-balanced Ccycled® -products in various industries. These mass-balanced Ccycled® products thus drive the circularity initiatives of our partners in the downstream industries, for example in textiles (Vaude), food packaging (e.g. Zott), sustainable packaging for shelf-life extension (Stepac), pharma boxes (eutecma) and automotive parts (e.g. Mercedes).
