ESIG is currently assessing to engage in putting the recently published OECD “Initial Recommendations on Evaluation of Data from the Developmental Neurotoxicity (DNT) In Vitro Testing Battery” into practice.
https://one.oecd.org/document/ENV/CBC/MONO(2023)13/en/pdf
Our expectation is to deliver our sector’s contribution to foster NAM approaches and to support the transition to regulatory systems and safety assessment without the need for animals in research . “In 2024, it is our objective to evaluate the potential and value of testing various solvents for their developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) potential using rat neural progenitor cell assays (i.e., rNPC 1-5). The outcome would give an early indication of DNT and hence the risk of products being banned from consumer use. Furthermore, this would enable investigation of the applicability of such NAMs battery for DNT identification /assessment of solvents. Finally, obtained results may be used in the registration dossier as part of the weight-of-evidence to avoid in vivo testing for DNT.
