MoReTec is LyondellBasell proprietary advanced/chemical recycling technology. It aims to return post-consumer plastic waste to its molecular form for use as a feedstock for new plastic materials that offer expanded applications, including food packaging. In September 2024, LyondellBasell started the construction of its first commercial scale MoReTec plant in Wesseling, Germany. The plant will be in operation in 2026. Alongside the use of third party advanced recycled feedstock, the development of MoReTec will contribute to LyondellBasell’s ambitious global goal to produce and market by 2030 2 million tonnes of recycled and renewable based polymers annually.
