The project "Regulatory Options for Hydrogen Transformation in the Chemical Industry (ROWaCh)" explores the incentives and obstacles within the chemical industry to produce and use hydrogen as part of a climate neutrality transition strategy. The overarching goal is to accelerate the hydrogen transformation without compromising environmental standards. Collaborating with key industrial partners such as the German Chemical Industry Association and Evonik, ROWaCh analysed regulatory adjustments in the authorisation process for electrolysers. The project later assessed the effectiveness of the new funding instrument Carbon Contracts for Difference (CCfD) in offsetting the higher costs of green hydrogen compared to fossil fuels. The project, launched in July 2022, runs until March 2025. The remaining steps are:
- Publication of an article on authorisation process of electrolysers – by Q1 2025
- Publication of a policy paper on CCfD - by Q1 2025
- Publication of an information brochure for companies on authorisation procedures – by Q1 2025
