A few years ago, ADLER commissioned the most modern water-based paint factory in Europe. Water-based coatings are produced there using a novel modular process that saves around 30% energy compared withthe conventional production method. Continuous further development of processes in production and research & development makes it possible to reduce waste volumes and thus the need for raw materials. ADLER is increasingly using recycled plastics for plastic packaging. All containers in which ADLER's products are filled are recyclable (plastic, aluminum). Around 20% of the annual production volume is delivered in returnable containers, which are taken back, cleaned and reused. Cardboard scraps are used as filling material for shipping packaging instead of bubble wrap at several locations. In product development, attention is paid to optimizing energy and material efficiency in the processing of coatings by customers, e.g. through improved grindability, lower coating thicknesses or faster drying. The medium-term goal is to increase the share of recycled plastics in packaging to 40% by 2025 and to reduce the specific total electricity consumption for the processes to 0.21 kWh/kg (production volume).
