The Travel Foundation report, released in 2024, highlights the need for Destination Management Organisations and National Tourism Organisations to create more equitable tourism models. It discusses the imbalance where local communities bear the burden of tourism while benefiting less than those directly involved in the industry. The report provides 25 case studies and identifies mechanisms to distribute tourism's value more fairly, aligning with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. It also outlines an Equity-Driven Management approach to strengthen local governance and ensure tourism contributes to the public good.
