Eurostat is a crucial source of reliable tourism data in the EU, but stakeholders need more diverse, granular, and timely information. Current harmonisation processes within the European Statistical System cause publication delays, reducing the data's effectiveness for real-time decision-making during crises. Data updates are infrequent, often only available at the national (NUTS0) level rather than the more relevant NUTS3 regional level. Key tourism sectors, such as cruise tourism and exhibitions, are also underrepresented in Eurostat's classifications. Addressing these issues would enhance Eurostat's role in providing actionable data, improving decision-making and crisis preparedness for the tourism ecosystem.
