The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) published a report in October 2024, highlighting the impact of the Tourism for Rural Development Programme (T4RD) from 2021 to 2024. This programme aims to leverage tourism to tackle rural challenges, support sustainable livelihoods, reduce poverty and regional inequalities, improve quality of life and well-being, and preserve and promote natural and cultural heritage. The report emphasises the programme's focus on enhancing the capacities and skills of rural stakeholders, facilitating knowledge exchange for evidence-based policymaking in rural tourism, and supporting innovative, sustainable approaches for member states and actors.
