The Special Eurobarometer 536 report on the Digitalisation of travel documents and Facilitation of travel, conducted between May 10th and June 5th, 2023, presents findings from a survey of 26,358 respondents across the 27 EU Member States. The report explores Europeans' travel habits and expectations when traveling to or outside the Schengen area, highlighting issues encountered during travel, the importance of policy actions related to travel facilitation, and perceptions of Digital Travel Credentials (DTCs). It underscores the role of the EU in shaping travel legislation, particularly in enhancing border security and streamlining border check procedures through digital technologies like DTCs, which aim to simplify international travel processes by reducing the need for physical document checks.
