The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) released a report in March 2024 that evaluates the current situation and challenges of tourism data collection and reporting at the city level. It is based on the review and analysis of 22 case studies from city destinations across Africa, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. The goal is to harmonise existing data practices in city destinations and create a global urban tourism database, which will help better understand and benchmark urban tourism's size, value, and impacts globally and regionally.
