The OECD policy paper, released in January 2025, aims to bolster the evidence base for a sustainable tourism future in Malta. It introduces a customised set of 37 indicators designed to guide and improve evidence-based policy development and sustainable destination management in the country. The paper builds on existing frameworks and best practices at various levels, with indicator selection guided by key policy priorities from the Malta Tourism Strategy 2021-2030, 'Recover. Rethink. Revitalise,' and stakeholder consultations. The report includes a toolkit with five strategies to integrate tourism sustainability indicators into decision-making processes, facilitating the transition from indicator selection to actionable steps.
