TUI Group released "Plastic Reduction Guidelines for Hotels" in 2019 in an effort to address the widespread problem of single-use plastics in the hospitality industry. Recognising the harm to the environment, TUI Group pledged to eliminate 140 million single-use plastic pieces by the end of 2018, with intentions to raise this number to 250 million by 2020. These recommendations offer hotel operators all-inclusive approaches for putting into practice successful single-use plastic reduction initiatives in a variety of departments, from dining rooms and guest rooms to reception and guest rooms. This effort seeks to reduce plastic waste in hotels by encouraging best practices and alternatives. By doing so, it aligns with global sustainability goals and improves environmental stewardship in the travel and tourist sector.
