In November 2024, the Federal Ministry Republic of Austria Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK) released a guide developed by THE PEP (the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme). This guide is designed to support national authorities of the pan-European region with climate-friendly strategies for sustainable tourism mobility. It covers various areas, including the mobility needs of different tourist groups, destination mobility management, long-distance travel options, flexible transport systems, cycling and walking as part of the tourism experience, multimodal travel information systems, and the integration of sustainable mobility services into tourism packages, marketing, and communication. The document offers clear actions and recommendations for sustainable mobility in tourism, along with concrete case studies and innovative approaches to help national governments incorporate sustainable mobility solutions into their policies and activities.
