This article is featured in the PANTOUR blog (the initiative is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union). The integration of robots and AI in the tourism and hospitality industry is set to transform the nature of work for human employees, necessitating the upgrade of their digital skills. AI will take over routine tasks, allowing human employees to focus on complex, strategic tasks such as handling complex complaints or providing personalized services. Employees will need to enhance their customer experience focus, manage AI, analyze data from sophisticated predictive analytics platforms, and continuously learn new skills to stay relevant. Ethical considerations regarding AI and data usage will also become crucial, as highlighted by Ivanov and Umbrello (2021).
