In the inaugural episode of "This is Europe" (March 2020), Shahidha Bari explores how the Interreg community is spearheading environmental initiatives across the continent. From Rostock, Germany, mobility manager Steffen Nozon showcases efforts to transform local streets into green, car-free zones. In Enschede, Netherlands, Rutger Vrielink of Domijn housing association discusses collaborative efforts among small housing associations to renovate homes for energy efficiency. In Fife, Scotland, farmer John Drysdale and Fiona Torrance of the Game and Wildlife Trust work across borders to preserve biodiversity, focusing on the grey partridge as an indicator species. These initiatives are crucial for achieving the EU's 2050 carbon neutrality goal.
