The European Climate Law, which aims to achieve climate neutrality within the EU by 2050, was proposed by the European Commission in 2021. It creates a foundation for the EU to become climate neutral by 2050. This entails striking a balance between the removal of greenhouse gases from the EU and their emissions, with a legally-binding goal of a nett domestic emission reduction of at least 55% by 2030. The law addresses the effects of climate change and emphasises sustainable development, in line with the European Green Deal.
