The primary objective of the CRM Act is to reduce the European Union's dependency on imports from single-country suppliers and to strengthen the EU's capacities along the entire value chain of critical raw materials. This includes extraction, processing, and recycling, thereby enhancing the EU's resilience against supply disruptions.
The CRM Act was officially adopted by the EU on 23 May 2024. This timely initiative aligns with the EU's broader goals under the Green Deal Industrial Plan, which aims to scale up the manufacture of key carbon-neutral technologies and support the transition to a sustainable economy.
