In a significant move to strengthen Europe's industrial resilience, the European Commission has unveiled a list of 47 strategic projects focused on securing and diversifying the EU's supply of critical raw materials. These projects span various stages of the raw materials value chain, including extraction, processing, and recycling, and collectively cover 14 of the 17 strategic raw materials identified in the Critical Raw Materials Act. By fostering domestic capacities and promoting sustainable practices, these initiatives aim to ensure that the EU meets its ambitious benchmarks for raw material sourcing by 2030. This strategic endeavour not only enhances Europe's industrial competitiveness but also aligns with the EU's broader goals of achieving a greener and more sustainable economy. The selected projects are expected to play a pivotal role in reducing the EU's reliance on external suppliers, thereby fortifying the continent's economic sovereignty.
