On 3 July 2025, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) announced the selection of 94 transport projects across Europe to receive approximately EUR 2.8 billion in funding through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). This funding will support the development and upgrading of railways, inland waterways, maritime routes, and road infrastructure, with a strong focus on sustainability, digitalisation, and cross-border connectivity.
Rail transport will receive the largest share of the funding (77%), while the remaining funds will support projects aimed at reducing the environmental impact of maritime and inland waterway transport, improving the safety and efficiency of the transport network, and enhancing infrastructure accessibility and resilience.
