The summer of 2024 saw a mixed performance in France’s tourism sector. While the overall annual tourist numbers are expected to match those of 2023, the summer season showed varied results. The Olympics significantly boosted tourism in some areas, particularly Paris, which saw a 13% increase in foreign visitors during the Olympic period. However, other regions experienced challenges due to poor weather and changing consumer behaviors. Domestic tourism saw a slight decline, with fewer French tourists traveling in July but a stabilization in August. Financial constraints also influenced tourist behavior, with many opting for shorter stays and fewer restaurant visits (The original piece available only in French).
