In July 2025, Rimini became the first city in Italy to implement an integrated system of automated refrigerated micro-hubs and cargo bikes for urban food logistics, as part of the HORECA LAST MILE project. Developed in collaboration with local partners, the initiative aims to revolutionise last-mile delivery in the HORECA (Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering) sector through a sustainable, innovative, and tech-driven approach.
According to GEL Proximity S.r.l., the system integrates smart cold lockers, a real-time coordination platform, and zero-emission cargo bikes. This combination enhances the efficiency of urban food deliveries, minimises environmental impact, and streamlines operations.
