Cascale has developed the Higg Index Product Tools to empower designers, brands, retailers, and manufacturers to use life cycle assessment (LCA) data for more sustainable product decisions. These tools, supported by Cascale’s technology partner Worldly, are designed to evolve with the latest scientific research and data. Cascale created a mapping document, finalised in Q1 2024, detailing how members can use the Higg Index - particularly the Brand and Retail Module—to comply with the European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and ESRS data points. Training sessions on the Higg Product Module in March, June, and October 2023 helped brands and manufacturers understand data collection for product footprinting through an LCA framework. Cascale also organises annual meetings and regular manufacturer forums to share best practices and drive systemic social and environmental progress, with the Barcelona and Munich member events (May and June 2024), and the Brand & Retail Forum (December 2024). In parallel, Cascale has actively supported alignment with the EU Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) and Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), coordinating the technical secretariat for the PEFCRs for apparel and footwear (approved on 24 April 2025) and engaging in key EU policy discussions. Cascale has contributed expert input at multiple PEF-related events, including the Brussels PEF Days (June 2023), the Paris Durability Bootcamp (October 2023), Düsseldorf PEF Days (December 2023), Madrid PEF Days (May 2024), and Lille PEF Days (November 2024). After a decade of work, the Apparel and Footwear PEFCR was officially approved by the Technical Secretariat on 24 April 2025. As part of its 2030 vision, Cascale continues to educate stakeholders on the value of LCA data and support harmonised approaches to sustainability measurement and reporting.
