The tool of a consulting convention for local authorities is unique in fostering peer-to-peer public consulting, enabling local authorities to build tailored tourism strategies with direct support from regional experts. It promotes knowledge sharing, strengthens local-regional alignment, and ensures sustainable tourism development through collaborative, resource-efficient planning.

Vision
Regional authorities in tourism should make available their know-how in specific domains to local authorities that have usually limited resources and experience in subject that are not part of their core business of supporting services to local population
In turn, these projects can enrich the experience of regional authorities and give them a better understanding of their geographic action area
Objectives
Peer-to-peer public consulting between public regional and local authorities (no private consulting partner intervened)
Supporting local authorities in the Region to develop a vision, strategy and action plan for local tourism
Embedding a local storytelling and tourism approach in a broader regional touristic framework
- Creating collaboration and optimizing resources by connecting local authorities to their stakeholders and to other neighboring municipalities
Deliverables
- Consulting Convention between the regional authority for tourism, visit.brussels, and a municipal authority
- Assessment of communication tools and strategy of the local authority
- Strategic Plan and Action plan containing a SWOT, a scaled evaluation of the current offer using a ‘maturity barometer’, an extensive strategic advice for sustainable tourism and finally a list of actions and expected budgets in order to transform the strategy into practice
- Workshops with local stakeholders in order to advice on priorities and suggest priority actions and stakeholder engagement
Timeframe
- 2021: approach of a local administration of visit.brussels to start negotiations
- 2022-2023 : negotiations and draft of the collaboration agreement
- 2023 : conclusion of the consultancy agreement
- 2023-2024 : kickoff of the consultancy agreement
