ECF commits to collect EuroVelo related data provided by national stakeholders (National EuroVelo Coordination Centres - NECCs), in particular GIS data. In this regard, ECF is committed to promote standardization of data, mutual understanding and decisions on cycling related data. Expected results are cycling data standard from EUROSTAT, in line with conclusions on data collection from the group of experts on cycling infrastructure of UNECE, and with commitments from Member States to collect cycling data by the National Access Points (NAP). Interoperability of the EuroVelo Data Base is also considered thanks to a newly released Import Module that can allow external detailed data about long distance cycle routes to be imported. Cooperation with Open Street Map (OSM) communities is also ongoing to improve data related to EuroVelo in the crowdsourced system but also trying to collect more data and analysis from OSM. The European Certification Standard (ECS) methodology can be used for data architecture on long-distance cycle routes. Experiences of national uses of ECS bring feedback on the methodology and technology environment of ECS for improvements and further developments.
ECF also commits to support exchange of knowledge and information by coordinating a EuroVelo GIS subgroup involving experts representing NECCs. The GIS subgroup is meeting regularly online and discussing topics of general interest or sharing good practices and experiences. The community is active and enables progress on data-driven cycling tourism services such as the launch of GPX tracks downloads on EuroVelo.com in July 2022.
Concrete actions:
- 1 cycling infrastructure data standard in Europe to be agreed by Eurostat and UNECE
- Publication of the annual EuroVelo Development Status Report
- 2 Online workshops per year for the EuroVelo GIS Subgroup on quality cycle routes and data
- 3 articles published on Pro.EuroVelo.com and EuroVelo.com about data for developers and end-users
Target:
- Annual report on EuroVelo Development Status: progress in cycle routes development with minimum +5% growth a year
- More detailed data about quality of long-distance cycle routes: type of infrastructure, surfaces, services, etc.
- Existing European Standards on cycling infrastructure and cycle route components.
