The Vienna Municipal Administration launched a sustainable development strategy in February 2022, with the vision of making Vienna a model climate city. It prioritises a high quality of life for all residents through social and technical innovation while maximising resource conservation.

The strategy's key goals are to achieve climate neutrality by 2040, cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030, and transition to renewable energy sources. It also focuses on sustainable urban planning, environmentally friendly mobility, and social inclusion.
