The European Parliament adopted a resolution on 25 March 2021 to establish an EU strategy for sustainable tourism. The tourism and travel sectors contribute nearly 10% to the EU’s GDP, but the COVID-19 pandemic has jeopardized 6 out of 27 million jobs in these industries. The resolution proposes both short-term measures, such as temporarily reducing VAT on tourism services, and long-term strategies to promote sustainable, responsible, and smart tourism. It emphasizes the importance of integrating the tourism industry into development plans, enhancing its quality, and investing in digitalization and modernization.
