The European Commission has proposed an Action Plan to boost long-distance and cross-border passenger rail services in December 2021. This plan seeks to lay the foundation for a true rail renaissance, together with modifications to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) to expand high-speed train capacity and fresh assistance for rail investment from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The objective is to break through obstacles, increase passenger appeal for rail, and meet key targets such as tripling high-speed train traffic by 2050 and doubling it by 2030.
