On 6 November 2024, Catherine Martin, the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media, introduced the new Government of Ireland Tourism Policy Framework for the period up to 2030. This policy, created through extensive engagement with tourism stakeholders, the tourism sector, and a public consultation process, seeks to balance economic development with environmental and social considerations in the country. It features 61 policy proposals focused on environmental, economic, and social sustainability.

Among its high-level targets for the period up to 2030 are to establish a baseline figure for tourism-associated emissions by Fáilte Ireland, set specific emission reduction and biodiversity targets in shorter-term Tourism Action Plans, reduce average carbon emissions associated with each visitor bed night by 60%, achieve an average annual 5.6% growth in revenue from overseas visitors and domestic tourism, and ensure quality, year-round jobs nationwide.

A 'Tourism Leadership Group' will be established to oversee the implementation of these objectives.
