The European Commission’s vision for a digital future is centred on leveraging technology to benefit all citizens and businesses while upholding fundamental rights and values. The digital transformation is a critical enabler of economic growth, innovation, and social progress, but it also presents challenges related to cybersecurity, data privacy, and digital sovereignty.

To address these, the Commission has set out three key objectives:

  1. Technology that Works for People – Ensuring that digital solutions empower individuals, support businesses, and drive innovation while maintaining trust, security, and inclusivity.
  2. A Fair and Competitive Economy – Establishing a digital single market that allows businesses of all sizes to compete on a level playing field while fostering innovation, fair taxation, and regulatory clarity.
  3. An Open, Democratic, and Sustainable Society – Strengthening digital rights, ensuring trustworthy online platforms, and using technology to promote sustainability and climate goals.

To achieve these objectives, the EU will invest in digital infrastructure, promote cutting-edge research in AI, supercomputing, and blockchain, and enhance the regulatory framework for digital services. The strategy also addresses international digital cooperation, reinforcing Europe’s role as a global leader in setting standards and promoting an ethical, inclusive, and sustainable digital economy.

By creating a robust and trustworthy digital ecosystem, Europe aims to lead the global digital transition while ensuring that the benefits are widely shared and aligned with its core democratic values.
