The current and future demand for specialised digital and green skills within the retail sector will not be met by existing education and training programmes. Skills4Retail is an EU-funded international initiative designed to elevate the retail and wholesale sectors across Europe through cutting-edge vocational education and training (VET). Focused on supporting growth and sustainability, the programme addresses the pressing need for digital and green skills in a rapidly evolving marketplace. By bridging the digital skills gap, Skills4Retail empowers workers at all levels—from front-line staff to senior managers—with the tools to succeed in an increasingly digitalised retail landscape. The programme also promotes sustainable practices essential for long-term business viability, aligning workforce development with environmental responsibility. Delivered by a consortium of educational institutions, industry leaders, and service providers, Skills4Retail is co-funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme. Its mission is to create a robust, inclusive and future-ready retail sector by equipping the workforce with the necessary skills in sustainability, digital literacy, and resilience. Through cross-border collaboration and practical training solutions, Skills4Retail champions a digital-first, sustainability-led transformation in European retail—ensuring that both businesses and individuals are prepared to thrive in a fast-changing economy.
