The "Access Routes" project—funded by the Estonia–Latvia Interreg Programme and supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)—is dedicated to creating 30 accessible tourism routes, each lasting 1 to 3 days, across Latvia and Estonia. These routes will be featured on the Mapeirons.eu platform, showcasing inclusive natural and cultural heritage destinations.

Led by the Kurzeme Planning Region, in collaboration with four partners from both countries, the project focuses on enhancing accessibility for people with disabilities, families, and older adults. This includes adapting infrastructure, improving services and information, and installing tactile solutions at 21 key sites.

Running from 1 October 2023 to 31 March 2026, the project aims to:

  • Establish a unified cross-border accessibility standard
  • Introduce a “Disability Friendly” quality label
  • Expand inclusive tourism opportunities in the region

Expected outcomes include a significantly enhanced Mapeirons.eu platform, 30 fully accessible routes, improved accessibility at 21 tourism sites, and stronger branding and promotion of disability-friendly travel in both Estonia and Latvia.
