The TWIN SEEDS project, launched in October 2022 under the Horizon Europe program, is a collaborative research initiative led by Politecnico di Milano. The consortium comprises eleven universities and research institutions from eight EU countries. TWIN SEEDS aims to investigate the recent evolution of global value chains by examining the dual influences of technological transformations and geopolitical shifts. The project aims to understand how these 'twin seeds' impact international trade, production patterns, employment, social cohesion, and environmental sustainability. Additionally, it seeks to assess the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on GVCs and develop forward-looking policy scenarios in areas such as trade, investment, industrial, regional, education, and social policies. One of the research focuses is on the impact of circular economy on the textile value chain, in particular in the context of the French textile industry. In this context the team has undertaken extensive interviews to understand the opportunities and challenges of the circular economy in the sector and how policy can support the transition. The ultimate goal is to enrich European debates and inform public policies that promote economic prosperity, social cohesion, and environmental quality in light of the evolving dynamics of GVCs.
