The Horizon Europe project "Circular and Sustainable Textiles and Clothing" (CISUTAC) aims to develop European value chains for post-consumer polyester recycling, focusing on fashion and workwear. Coordinated by Centexbel-VKC, it promotes reusing and shopping second-hand textiles, with key outcomes including CO2 reduction and new business activities. The project concludes in September 2026.

The Horizon Europe project “Circular and Sustainable Textiles and Clothing” (CISUTAC) aims at overcoming textile circularity challenges by developing large-scale European value chains for post-consumer polyester recycling. CISUTAC targets polyester and cotton fibers, representing 90% of textile materials, and focuses on fashion, workwear and personal protective equipment, and active goods sectors. Centexbel-VKC coordinates the project, handles fibre-to-fibre recycling via CO2 cleaning and melt spinning, and develops pilots. They also support the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) process. CISUTAC also raises awareness among EU citizens about the environmental impact of buying new clothes and the benefits of reusing, donating and shopping second hand textiles. Key expected outcomes include a CO2 reduction of several 100s ktons per year, while the anticipated improved collection offer an estimated €250 million in new business activities, corresponding to an estimated 1300 FTE jobs. The project aims to promote circular fashion and reach a vast amount of people through various platforms. Public deliverables, including decision support tools and reports, will be published by Autumn 2026. The project will conclude in September 2026.
