The SITE initiative, supported by the Interreg Italy – Croatia 2021 – 2027 programme, is designed to diversify tourism by creating a more inclusive ecosystem in both Croatia and Italy. By emphasizing universal design principles, the project aims to improve accessibility and social inclusion for individuals with special needs, such as those with disabilities, families with young children, and the elderly. The initiative will involve research, pilot projects, and educational activities to highlight the advantages of universal design in tourism. Running for 30 months from March 1, 2024, SITE also seeks to increase awareness among tourism professionals and academics about the importance of developing sustainable and inclusive tourism experiences.
